Why Tamanu Oil is my new favourite Oil to formulate with
Lately, I have been using tamanu oil in some of my custom blends for clients as well as in products that I handmake for purchase on the retail side of my business. But why is tamanu oil, one of my favourite oils to work with now. Let’s talk a bit about it.
What is Tamanu Oil
Found in Madagascar or Southeast Asia, the oil is extracted from the tropical tamanu nut tree which is thick dark green and sticky liquid. I would describe the aroma as a nutty smell, but others have often described it as woody.
Tamanu Oil in Skincare
Tamanu oil is considered a healing oil because of its ability to stimulate collagen production to promote wound healing. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and helps with things such as acne to eczema. It also has antioxidants which help with free radical damage and has fatty acids which help keep the skin moisturized.
Things to Note
If you are allergic to nuts, tamanu oil is NOT the oil for you and while this oil can help with acne, it is important to note that it is slightly comedogenic so it must be used strategically.
How I use Tamanu Oil
Besides using tamanu oil in certain custom formulations for clients, I also use it in the Luvurlōk Beauty Bar’s Watermelon + Hibiscus Cleansing Oil. Made with Watermelon Seed Oil, Hibiscus Oil, Tamanu Oil and Borage Oil, this oil is great to calm inflammation, while leaving your skin feeling smooth and moisturized without clogging pores. Use as a double cleanse in your evening routine or as your morning cleanser.
