September is Self-Improvement Month

If you signed up for my newsletter, you would have seen that September is self-improvement month.  As a mom, I believe that it is pretty much already in our genes to constantly do self-improvement, but, what sort of self-improvement do we do.  I think it often is based around motherhood and how we can be better mothers.  This is usually incorporated through how we treat (or don’t treat) our kids, how we interact with them and even how badly they had a meltdown in the grocery store.  However, what we never focus on is self-improvement FOR JUST US.

So before I dive into tips and tricks, I thought I would just give you Oxford’s definition of self-improvement: “Improvement of oneself, esp. of one's knowledge, status, or character, by one's own efforts”.

So now that you know the official definition of self-improvement, what are some things that we, as moms, can improve on that is self-focused (not child focused).

First, we can look to what we would like to achieve.  I don’t know about you but it took me a long time to stop saying things like, I would live to achieve [insert thing] but I can’t because the kids need me or the kids are not old enough yet…RUBBISH…those were all excuses (and yes we use our kids as excuses) because I didn’t want to acknowledge my fear of venturing into the unknown, what if I fail, what if I don’t do well.  Listen up buttercup…we housed a human in our bodies, and they are still alive and breathing so how can we fear ANYTHING else.  Working on achievements is a growing part of life, this is something we also teach our kids, but how can we teach them, if we are not doing it ourselves.

Second, we can ask ourselves what tools we need to consider ourselves better.  How many times have you said okay, I want to achieve [insert] and you move past the fear but now you are working with ZERO tools.  The tool can be as simple as reading a book, but again, we let the kids get in the way (are they really getting in the way or are we putting them in the way).  Just like the first point above, we need to learn to set aside the time and put the boundaries up

Third, seek help if you need it.  Never do a journey on your own.  It’s impossible as you may not know all the steps.  Just like motherhood, the thing you would like to achieve is likely going to be baby steps for you.  So find someone who can help you get to your goal.

Lastly, we can give ourselves some grace.  Self-improvement is about evolving as a person in whatever you think you need to.  So, it is very self-focused.  No one can tell you what you should be improving on as only you know what that can be.  So, if your self-improvement plan of action doesn’t look like someone else’s, that’s okay because it’s only designed for you.

If your self-improvement goal is to focus on skincare (YOUR skincare), just remember that the skincare products are the tools that you would use to achieve the result that you are looking for.  Don’t be afraid to message me if you need guidance.
